Lumberjack cuts one tree, gets stuck on own building node

Hi there,

Just bought the game and installed the snap version of it.

I have a very old computer with Ubuntu 19.10 64b, and it runs. At about 1/2 a frame per second but it does.

I was a bit distracted and had to re-start into new games, for like 5 times, until I realized that the lumberjack was not dropping his freshly cut tree for the hauler to pick up and send to the warehouse.

I paid for the game and, EVEN, for an Alpha, the basic production chain should not be stuck at, produce one unit, get stuck upon delivery. It should AT LEAST send the logs to the warehouse, at least that!!

Cheers,
Gus

Hello,
Thank you for the support!

Sorry to hear that, but the production and goods transportation works pretty decent since the 0.2.0. We would't have published anything if it would be broken like that. Though, eventually the low framerate causes those exceptions but it does not make to much sense. Could you provide us more system information? And do you have any other system you could test it on? This really should not happen and we'll try to help you!

Best regards,
Kai

Hey Kai,

> the low framerate causes those exceptions but it does not make to much sense.

If low framerate was to blame on ANYTHING, I would have had issues with clicking on buttons, dropping buildings, connecting nodes with paths, materials not being delivered.

I went through the tutorial rather mindlessly, having played Settlers, The Colonists(Lill robots) and Microtown, and that's just in the last few months.

So I kinda knew what I was doing. All the buildings where placed, rotated and "plomped". All buildings had the respective materials delivered and were built with no issue.

The worker was assigned and travelled to his workplace. He then went out to gather his resource and came back.

That's it, he just stays there, on the workplace node, holding the resource.

My system is :
OS: Ubuntu 19.10 64b
CPU: Intel Pentium G640 (2) @ 2.800GHz
GPU: Intel Sandybridge Desktop (Motherboard Integrated GPU)
Kernel: 5.3.0-46-generic
RAM: 4 GB
GPU RAM: Unknown

If you need anything else from me, please don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers,
Gus

Hey Kai,

Sorry, forgot to answer that I don't have any other system that could help.

I tried to run the game on my laptop: (AMD A10 2phys 4virtual and also with Integrated GPU) and was not able to get the game to load the Menu.
It's also running Ubuntu 19.10 64b and was completely re-installed from scratch less than a month ago.

I got the K2Software logo animation and the "Made with Unity" and that's it.

What I find rather interesting is that "The Colonists", also a Unity game with full 3D gameplay, runs smoothly on both the Desktop and the Laptop I own and your game is pretty laggy... but hey, who am I to discuss any of that. Don't want to start any flame wars :)

Cheers,
Gus

Hello Gus,

Thanks for the information!

That the Lumberjack got stuck should be caused by any exception even if not directly related.

Could you provide us the unity player log file? Found at:
~/snap/serfs/current/.config/unity3d/K2Software/Serfs/player.log

The menu scene takes a moment to load, during this time the system may reports that the application is not responding. You may just have to wait a bit longer.
This is of course our fault, and we will fix the loading times!

To be fair, "The Colonists" is pretty low poly and uses simple shading.
But you're right, and we plan to add a "performance" mode that uses low resolution textures and simplified shaders to better support older systems.

Kai

If it was only one Unit getting stuck I would agree, but ALL units get stuck right after getting one/two unit of resource done, and I mean The Lumberjack, The Mason, The Legume Farmer. The only building that worked fine was the Lumber Mill.

But me being a bit ironic/moronic won't help any of us in any way, and for that I deeply apologise. I'm a programmer myself and have these stupid habits, sorry.

I'm attaching the Player.log only, since this Forum software won't allow me to upload a zip with the Log and a Saved Game.

Cheers,
Gus

Hi Gus,
the log is ok.
I've found an (timing-)issue which can cause that workers stuck at the node. This occurs very rarely on machines with high fps (nonetheless a game breaker). The lower the fps the more often it happens. In the next build it should be fixed.

Yeah this was a stupid limitation. Zip files are allowed now.

We also have a test pc with an A10 APU (but only Win7 installed) and there it works. The next days i will install Ubuntu on it to see what the issue is.

Thanks,
Kevin

This is quite interesting. I'll be eager to get an update. On a side note, the Desktop(Intel) runs at 2-3 FPS :(

Ahh, thank the deities!! Do you guys still want the save game, or are you good in terms of info?

You know what? I decided the Laptop(A10) was gonna be a testing ground for new OSs. So I installed Win 10 Pro(Unregistered) and the game flows quite nicely, floating around 23/24 FPS. Next install is gonna be the very fresh Ubuntu 20.04. I'll report how the game behaves there. I'll also do some non Debian based ones and also report back.

When Kai told me to wait, on the next message I forgot to add that when the Laptop with Ubuntu 19.10 git stuck after displaying the entry anims, I waited for about a TV Episode's worth of time, so around 40m, and it was still stuck on a black screen. I'm really sorry I didn't look at "htop" to see if it was stuck on 0 CPU or 100 CPU.

So I'm guessing the problem is with the Linux compile.

Cheers,
Gus

P.S: Do you guys have something against Discord?

Hey guys,

Just to confirm that v0.2.10 has no issue with workers stuck after production!!

AND, somehow you guys made this crappy Desktop work at a SOLID 3 FPS with no wavering!! ;P

Cheers,
Gus
